We all have the same 24 hours in a day but why do some people seem to get more done than others? How we use those 24 hours makes all the difference. Realistic time blocking is key to using those 24 hours effectively.
The first time I tried time blocking it wasn’t very realistic. I was trying to manage my life hour by hour.
It was too restrictive and repetitive and did not work! I needed more flexibility in my schedule without it being totally un-structured.
The “Block Schedule” System
Then I discovered Jordan’s YouTube channel. She has awesome videos on tips and tricks for all areas of life. My favorite is her video on realistic time blocking which she calls the “Block Schedule” System. (This is not a sponsored post.)
Jordan does a wonderful job on laying out how to simply and effectively schedule your day to get the most done using blocks of time, not hour by hour.
I love her method because while the time blocks are structured, the tasks you put into those blocks on a daily basis makes it realistic and flexible. This realistic time blocking allows for changes from day to day while still sticking with those structured and organized blocks of time.
For example, Jordan has an after-school block which includes things like homework and after school activities. Some days the kids are just home and do homework at the dining room table and some days certain kids have sports and so the other kids bring their homework on clipboards to work on while on the road. Her after-school block is relatively the same each day but is also flexible.
My Life is Different…
My life is very different from Jordan’s but I was easily able to use her system to realistically time block my schedule and make it work for me.
Her system can be customized for everyone, whether you are a working mom, single mom, stay at home mom, dog mom, not a mom, etc.
She shows you how her personal schedule is blocked out and also gives an example of a generic mom’s schedule, plus additional tips on customizing it for your life.
Hilarious!
I also have to mention that Jordan’s videos are super fun to watch. She is very funny and since she is a working mom with 6 kids she can totally relate to and joke about the beautiful craziness of #momlife.
She also has videos on Budgeting and Meal Planning that are genius and yes, very funny.
