How to Make a 1st Birthday Smash Cake that is Refined White Sugar Free
When my daughter was getting close to turning the Big ONE I wanted to do something special but I didn’t want to shock her with sugar. I do not give my daughter candy and up to this point she had never had cake. I had stumbled across this new concept of having a 1st Birthday Smash Cake where you give your child a small cake and let them smash it and eat it as they please and I wanted to try it out. You may have read my post about My Go to Chocolate Cake recipe that I got from Chef Chloe, she also created the same recipe using Agave instead of Refined White Sugar and so that was the perfect base for my Smash Cake. Instead of using the butter cream recipe she gives, I just made my own homemade Whip Cream with Agave and used that for the frosting so that the entire cake was free of Refined White Sugar. I just whipped heavy whipping cream and added vanilla extract and Agave until it was sweet enough and vanilla enough for my taste. If you want to make it Vegan then you could use Coconut Cream Whipped Cream instead.

The Back Drop for My 1st Birthday Smash Cake
I got a couple table clothes from the Dollar Store and some Balloons from Party City to create a cute but simple backdrop. Her adorable outfit I found on Etsy. I don’t remember where I got the #1 balloon but you can find them on Amazon. It took her a little bit to understand what she was supposed to do with the cake as she had never had one before but in the end she liked it and I got some super cute pictures to put in her photo album.
Don’t Forget!
