For me, trying to get more greens into my diet, not to mention my family’s diet, can sometimes be tricky. A few years ago I got hooked on making easy, delicious, green smoothies and it made a big difference. And to make it as quick as possible I created my own delicious 3 ingredient green smoothie, detailed below.
7 Day Challenge
In 2016 I came found Jen and her 7 ingredient, 7 smoothie, 7 Day Challenge. This 7 Day Challenge was so easy and delicious. The best part is that you can pre prep all 7 smoothies at one time in individual bags for the freezer so that they are ready each day and all you have to do is blend and go. Emilia was almost two at the time and she helped me with the smoothie prep.
One of my favorite tips that she gives is that if you do not have a high speed blender then blend the greens and liquids first before adding the rest of the ingredients to ensure you don’t have any green chunks left and your smoothie is nice and smooth.
Jen’s recipes are family tested and I can vouch are family approved!
Here is a YouTube Video where Jen interviewed me after finishing my first Simple 7 challenge and winning her smoothie recipe book.
My Delicious 3 Ingredient Green Smoothie Recipe
Over the years I have tried different variations and recently have developed a super quick, easy, delicious green smoothie that only requires about 3 ingredients and can be customized.
- Spinach/Kale
- Ripe Bananas
- Liquid of Choice
It doesn’t look like much but it tastes great. Here is how:
- Make sure that your bananas are very ripe with lots of spots for easy digestion and sweetness. Food Prep Hack: Freezing them helps make your smoothie nice and cold and prevents your bananas from going bad on the counter. Cutting them up before freezing helps your blender blend them.
- For the liquid I use either Orange Juice or water mixed with a Mango Antioxidant boost. Either option adds more sweetness.
- For the Greens, my favorite food prep hack is buying a big bag of mixed greens from Costco and immediately sticking it in the freezer. This prevents it from going bad in my fridge and still allows me to grab handfuls for quick measuring and blending.
How Much?
For my family of three I like to do 16 oz of liquids, 2 to 3 large handfuls of greens and 2 to 3 frozen bananas.
Customize it!
You can add other things as well. I like to add a plain plant based protein powder for extra protein. Chia Seeds, Hemp seeds and other powders and boosts can also be added to your liking.
