Deciding what to wear in the morning is not always fun and honestly can sometimes be stressful. Recently I came across and started working on my own Capsule Wardrobe closet makeover to help streamline that process.
Not only was I wasting time staring at my clothes I was also wasting time searching for that one piece that I decided I wanted to wear that day. My closet and dresser were over stuffed and piled up with clothes I was rarely wearing. The disorganized mess was a time waster and stress trigger.
What exactly is a Capsule Wardrobe?
Wikipedia defines a capsule wardrobe as this:
Capsule wardrobe is a term coined by Susie Faux, the owner of a London boutique called “Wardrobe” in the 1970s. According to Faux, a capsule wardrobe is a collection of a few essential items of clothing that don’t go out of fashion, such as skirts, trousers, and coats, which can then be augmented with seasonal pieces.
Who loves Pinterest?
Pinterest is full of examples of Summer Capsules, Fall Capsules, Travel Capsules, etc. Some pins will even show you how a few pieces of clothing can be interchanged to create a large number of outfits. And here is one for a 5 step process to starting your capsule wardrobe.
My Capsule Wardrobe closet makeover is still a work in progress. Since Arizona doesn’t quite have all four seasons I am focusing on creating a Summer Capsule and a Fall/Winter Capsule. Below are two tops in my Capsule. I will update with more pictures as I complete it.
What looks best on me?
Growing up I didn’t have the best sense of fashion and trends. Jeans, T-shirts and sandals were my go to items in High school.
Even though I have expanded my wardrobe as an adult it’s hard not to just reach for my favorite pair of jeans and comfortable shirt and just wear that.
I noticed that I felt more confident wearing certain pieces of clothing than others but I wasn’t always sure why. I needed to change something.
Before you change anything!
Then I found Hilary. I watched her free Webinar that went over dressing right for your body shape. Hilary covers several awesome tips on how to pick the right clothes as well as how to wear your clothes so that they are flattering to your body and increase your confidence.
I highly recommend watching her Webinar before you go buy any new clothes or get rid of any of your current clothes. I got rid of a blouse that later I wish I had kept after watching her Webinar.
My friend Kelley also has some great tips if you feel you are stuck in a style rut. She gives a great list of of Classic pieces to have in your wardrobe that will go with almost anything.
No need to spend a fortune on clothes.
I always love a bargain. It can get pretty expensive shopping for clothes. So I love to shop at second hand stores. You can find awesome items for a fraction of the cost. Places like, Other Mother and Goodwill are two I have had success with.
Also there is a website I recently found called Thred Up where you can buy lightly used name brand clothes at very low prices online.
Until next time…
